Closing the Book on Papermaking...

Jeannelise and I helped our enthusiastic group to create a handmade books from their crafted pages in the final session of our course.  We were delighted to see all of the hard work over the past 4 weeks pulled together into a memorable piece of work.

With many thanks to everyone who took part and to Laura, Jackie Karen and Jane at Brunel Arts Centre for all their support with running the course.

Solar Prints...

Today was spent working with Helen Boden again continuing my series of solar prints from the Schlieren work I am doing with Peter Hobson.  The two coloured prints were created by combining intaglio and relief printing processes.

Taking a Breather: Paper making week 2

This week Jeannelise and I demonstrated casting and our enthusiastic group leapt at the opportunity to try out new processes.  Here are some images from the session:

Not Such a Bind!

This week saw the completion of the bookbinding evening course that I have been teaching in Brunel Arts Centre, and I am delighted by how the group responded to the exacting challenge of binding their own books. In my own practice I make books to document the outcomes of my work, but the objectives of the participants in this group were as diverse as making books for creative writing, making books for gifts and several had a general curiosity about how a book is constructed. Whatever the aims of each books creation, the results are stunning and I’m delighted by how committed the group were to achieving the outcomes shown in the pictures.

Many thanks to James Keith for inspiring me to run this course.
